Must Have Skincare Products

Last week I got to do an interview with one of my best friends Jourdan Chapman and we talked all about her passion for skincare! If you have not watched it yet you can check it out here

We touched on a lot of ideas but I knew I wanted her to share some of her favorite products so I decided we should do a post about it! She brought over her 6 favorite skincare products that are perfect if you are wanting to amp up your regimen and really start taking care of your face!

I myself struggle with my skincare routine. I have never been one to regularly wash my face (though I am working on it!) so the simpler the better! All of these products have amazing ingredients and work wonderfully! I will let Jourdan take over from here explaining each of her must have products and why you would benefit from purchasing them too!

Use these daily:

  1. Indie Lee CoQ-10 Toner $32

    • This is my first introduction to this brand and I love it! I feel like most people either love toners or think they aren’t necessary at all. I fall into the first camp and you will too if your try this toner. Toners help balance your skin by restoring the pH level after cleansing. I like choosing really hydrating toners to refresh and prep my skin for the rest of my routine. This toner contains CoQ-10 which is a powerful antioxidant. It also contains hyaluronic acid, a powerful and well-known hydrator, and aloe.

  2. Sunday Riley C.E.O Moisturizer $65

    • Powerhouse ingredients: Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Bisabolol

    • As you can tell, I really like Sunday Riley since I have two of her products is my must-haves list. As you can also tell by now, I am really into vitamin C right now, its in my cleanser, serum and moisturizer. This is my everyday daytime moisturizer. As the name suggests, it contains vitamin C, E, and other antioxidants.

    • Vitamin E is probably the second most well known antioxidant. Vitamin C and E are a powerhouse duo and you will most likely always see them together. The other funny-named ingredient in the moisturizer that I love is bisabolol. Bisabolol is derived from chamomile, so you can probably already guess that is has soothing

  3. C-Firma Day Serum by Drunk Elephant $80
    • Powerhouse ingredients: Vitamin C
    • This product is expensive, but well worth is, and it will last a long time since you don’t need to use much each morning. Vitamin C is one of the most well known antioxidants. It helps protect your cells from free radicals, which damage the cellular structure and can lead to sun damage and aging, among many other things.  Besides being an important anti-aging ingredient, Vitamin C also helps boost the radiance of your skin by evening your complexion and brightening dark spots(including acne scars). Vitamin C can also help protect your skin from UVB rays, but that doesn’t mean it should be used instead of sunscreen. Vitamin C, E and sunscreen used together offer a greater level of protection for your skin than just using only one.,. which is why this makes for a great daytime serum.

Use these if you are acne prone or wanting something a little more specialized:

  1. Detox Masque by Renee Rouleau $60.50
    • Powerhouse ingredients: Salicylic acid, tea tree oil

    • This is not a product that I use every night. I use this when my skin starts to freak out on me or I start using it the week before a big event (i.e. wedding, anniversary, birthday, etc.) to make sure my skin stays clear. I also love this mask because it helps prevent and treat cystic acne (think the large, underground pimple that hurt). It is best to use this mask after you have exfoliated with an AHA or BHA cleanser.

  2. Dr. Dennis Gross AcneEliminating Pads $38

    • Powerhouse ingredients: Willow Bark L-carnitine

    • L-carnitine helps prevent your oil glands from becoming blocked. When the glands are blocked it can lead to inflammation, which leads to those lovely pimples. Willow bark is a natural source of salicylic acid. Salicylic acid helps reduce the blockage in your pores by removing excess dead skin cells. This is really important because when excess dead skin cells clog up your pores it can lead to acne. While salicylic acid is mostly known as an anti-acne ingredient, it is also anti-aging. It has been shown to help reduce of wrinkles in the skin.

Use this daily as your cleanser:

  1. Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Cleanser $45
    • Powerhouse Ingredients: Rhassoul clays, vitamin C ester

    • So I prescribe to the double cleansing method made popular by Korean skin care. I first wash my face with an oil-based cleanser (Farmacy) in order to remove my make-up without stripping my skin of hydration. I was looking for a new second cleanser (I had just run out of Fresh Soy Cleanser which is great) and I came across Sunday Riley’s Ceramic Slip. I love this cleanser because I feel like really helps decongest my skin and give me a radiant glow without over drying. The Rhassoul clay helps clear skin by drawing out impurities from your pores while the vitamin C ester works to brighten your skin tone.

** Extra Tip: Vitamin C and salicylic acid do not pair well together. Use vitamin C in the morning to protect and use salicylic acid in the evening to treat and repair skin.
