Headlines that drive me INSANE!

It's hard enough to love your body and embrace all its curves, dimples, jiggles and scars when the world is constantly telling you to change them.

I do my best to protect my mind and my eyes from things that might trigger unproductive comparisons and downward spirals. But even just the simple act of going on Pinterest or opening my email these days can be tricky!

The reality is, that even as the veil is removed from our eyes it won't be that way for everyone. It does not serve the narrative or financial motives to tell women that we are enough without the creams, pills, weight loss and programs. Even as we learn to see the lies behind the promises we will still be told and sold those promises anyway.

I want to share these with you though so you can start to see just how deceptive, pervasive and false these headlines, promises, and images can be! The reality is, we need to see the tactics so we can learn how to avoid them or counter them.

These headlines are meant to drive to you click or buy. They are meant to sound enticing and too good to be true. The goal is to make you think it's so simple, they'll tell you how and if it doesn't work...well that's your fault.

Our fault. That's where the blame lands, on us. This is the lie we have to stop believing. That this is just all our faults. The truth is, you don't need to lose weight to be loved, worthy or valuable. That diet isn't going to change your life like you think it will and it actually matters more why you are doing these things than the actual things themselves.

But we blame ourselves. We look for quick fixes and we end up disappointed, frustrated and lost about where to go next. The reality is, it's time to stop believing these headlines. It's time to try something else.

**TRIGGER WARNING** If you do struggle with this and feel like these images would be unhelpful or hurtful please go ahead and don't finish this blog or skip past these images.

At the store:

Losing 22lbs in a week is not a real thing. There is no way this is healthy, sustainable and realistic. Do not be fooled by these headlines!

Eating more of what though? Often promises like that stem from restriction of other foods. This does not create a healthy long-term relationship with food. Eating more or less should be based on our hunger levels not on our weight.

On Pinterest:

Lazy girl...fast....do not be pulled in by these words. If you are struggling with motivation then more than likely there is more going on than you just being lazy. Also, fast is rarely sustainable or healthy.

Good vs bad....well since food has no moral value it shoudnt matter! Eat whatever carbs you want but don't get caught up in the good or bad, focus on how you feel, what tastes good and what you enjoy!

Another headline grabber trying to convince you that it's so easy it should only take 6 days. This again is not healthy nor will it be long-lasting.

In my email:

Lose 1lb a day? More than likely all you are consuming is this detox drink then! The reality is, our bodies have a natural detox system and we don't need a drink to help us do that.

Cravings are our bodies way of telling us what it needs. There is so much more to your cravings than trying to control them or thinking they are your body sabotaging you. Maybe if you stopped ignoring those cravings you wouldn't crave those things so much.

Tweaking things so you cut calories all year long...what if you are cutting out calories your body needs! It shouldn't matter the calories you are consuming, focus instead on what you are eating in general! Your body will use what it needs, store what it needs and get rid of the rest, trust it to do it's job.

The reality is, that we are never going to get away from companies or people wanting to try to sell us the magic secret to finally loving our bodies. The problem is that we've already tried most of what they're trying to sell us. We've tried the diets, the lazy hacks, quick tips and tweaks already but the promise of a simple change sounds so much better than an internal journey of self-acceptance that will take a lot more time and be a lot more work. But we've tried everything else haven't we? We've tried restriction, obsession and shame...how about we try intuitiveness, peace and love?

Realize that you are worth more than what these people and companies are trying to sell you. Realize that these claims are unrealistic most of the time and require creating unhealthy relationships around food and your body. Realize that instead of trying to change your weight or your diet first, try and change what's going on in your mind and in your heart.

If you are seeing lots of these emails or adds try to unsubscribe, unfollow, repin things that are more about self love! Feel free to check out any of my Pinterest boards for inspiration.

Start creating an environment you feel less triggered in, try to start seeing these claims and promises as what they are...sales, try to see that you are worth spending more time loving yourself than weight loss. I promise you will get there, it's time to just start opening your eyes and trying something else.
